Enviroschools

West Eyreton School have been on an environmental journey for many years now and this year we have made the commitment to develop this further into a school wide approach with a major focus on sustainability.  We are working through the Enviroschools Programme and are receiving support from many people from within our local community.

Eyrewell Restoration Planting Day 2018

Eyrewell Restoration Planting Day - Tuesday 25th September
West Eyreton senior school pupils, teachers and parents were involved in a restoration planting day to help preserve and restore an area of land located on Landcorp dairy land with an active Canterbury Skink population. The site has been fenced and will become a nature reserve for a number of native species including the Canterbury Grass Skink.  The site is on the corner of Downs and Horrell Rd.
We spent approximately two hours planting a selection of locally sourced native plants and the organisers - Wildlands were amazed at the speed and skill of our amazing West Eyreton Learners when it came to digging, planting, and staking well over 2,500 native plants in the two hours.  We finished the morning with a well earned barbecue lunch.

A huge thank you to the parents that supported this project and we look forward to maintaining a close working relationship with Conservation Volunteers, Rata Foundation and Landcorp to assist in the next stages of planting, and skink tracking and monitoring.
